Stronger under impact.
Safer when it breaks.
Thermally toughened glass. More resistant to impact and temperature differences; if it breaks, it shatters into small fragments. We toughen in our own furnace, 4–12 mm thick, up to 2100 × 3600 mm. The glass is cut and processed before toughening, because toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled afterwards.
Where we use it
- Shower enclosures and bathrooms
- Glass doors and partitions
- Balustrades and staircases, toughened laminated
- Furniture, shelves and interior glass
- Panes in insulating glass units that need extra strength
What you get
More impact-resistant
Toughening gives the glass a strength that ordinary glass of the same thickness does not have. For doors, partitions and anywhere the glass gets touched and knocked.
Copes with temperature differences
It is more resistant to temperature differences than ordinary glass. This matters for glass in direct sun and near heat sources.
No sharp shards when it breaks
If it breaks, it shatters into thousands of small fragments. No large sharp shards.
All processing before toughening
Cutting, grinding, drilling and cut-outs are all done before toughening, in the same factory. Once toughened, the glass cannot be processed any further, so the drawing must be final.
Colour, enamel
Back-painting to RAL colour. Enamelling and screen printing before toughening, for façade glass: the colour fuses with the glass during toughening.
From our own furnace
4–12 mm, up to 2100 × 3600 mm. Toughened and heat-strengthened. HST (heat soak test) by arrangement.
Rare, but real:
spontaneous breakage.
Toughened glass is strong because its surfaces are in compression and its core is in tension. That balance holds the glass together while it is intact.

Glass occasionally contains a tiny nickel sulphide (NiS) inclusion, smaller than a millimetre, that cannot be seen during inspection. If it sits in the core of the glass, in the tension zone, it changes shape over time and grows slightly. The toughened glass then breaks without any impact, sometimes years after installation.
HST (heat soak test) reduces this: the toughened glass is held at 290 °C for about two hours, so panes with an inclusion break in the oven rather than on the building. We recommend it for façades.
HST reduces the risk, but does not eliminate it 100%.
For those who
do the sums.
We toughen in our own furnace. Toughened glass is ordered with a final drawing: sizes, holes, cut-outs and edge work, because after toughening it cannot be cut, drilled or ground. For a specific design, we send the technical data sheet with the quote.

Tolerances and flatness
Toughened glass: ± 2 mm. Applies to standard sizes and thicknesses. For large formats, thicker glass and shapes, the tolerances in our Factory Standard apply.
| Edge length | Glass up to 8 mm | Thicker than 8 mm |
|---|---|---|
| up to 2000 mm | ± 2.0 mm | ± 3.0 mm |
| 2000–3000 mm | ± 3.0 mm | ± 4.0 mm |
| over 3000 mm | ± 4.0 mm | ± 5.0 mm |
| Flatness | Float | Other glass |
|---|---|---|
| Overall bow | 3 mm/m | 4 mm/m |
| Roller wave, over 300 mm | 0.3 mm | 0.5 mm |
Tolerances to EN 12150-1. The full Eurostaklo Factory Standard is available on request.
What our partner does
| Toughening larger sizes | Over 2100 × 3600 mm or thicker than 12 mm |
| HST | Heat soak test of toughened glass, EN 14179-1. Recommended for façades. |
| Digital printing | By arrangement |
The partner’s tolerances apply to these services. We do not supply curved glass.
